The one-eyed BBC
Note: This post is *not* written by Mr. E himself, but a humble submission from your eternal friend Carpsio
It's been done to death in more - and better - detail in a few places, but the BBC/Guardianista take on the Ofcom report into the Great Global Warming Swindle (go buy it!) is pretty amazing, even by the one-eyed standards to which they normally conform.
I make no bones about the fact that I think the whole 'anthropogenic climate change' thing is bunkum of the highest order. The number of usual-suspect cunts who propound it as a justification for social engineering can't be mere co-incidence. If you've got Grade A twats such as Colin Challen (my local MP and nemesis) and David Cunting Millband using it as a means by which to poke around your lifestyle in the name of saving the planet then alarm bells, hackles and blood pressure should be rising far faster than the temperature of Little Whinging.
Anyway, the esteemed Climate Audit (which is required reading, if a little heavy on actual statistical science for common-or-garden morons like me) calls the report right: a massive slapdown for the hordes of Climate Change proponents who rushed to criticise the program and Channel 4 for having the temerity to show it.
Go read the report itself, Climate Audit's forensic reading of it then compare to the Beeb's shrieking headline that "Climate documentary 'broke rules'" or the Guardian's "Watchdog's verdict on Channel 4 climate film angers scientists".
The Guardian as usual excels itself in egregious reporting, carefully noting the report "on balance" cleared the program makers and putting the "on balance" in quote marks as if it were significant for a report to use such a phrase.
It speaks fucking volumes that neither the BBC nor the Guardian felt the need to link to the actual report. As ever, a lack of context helps them to give free reign to their favoured side of the argument leaving the casual reader in little doubt that Some Evil has been committed and Thank God for Ofcom. Look away, there is nothing to see.
Of course, The BBC helpfully puts the debate 'in context' by including some recommended links. Down the right hand side there is a snippet called "Inside Scepticism, the lead story of which is 'Unravelling The Sceptics'" a tale of slippery sceptics and a daring anecdotal investigation into whether the scientific establishment is 'biassed' against client change sceptics (5 bonus points if you can guess the conclusion). Meanwhile, further down - under a heading of 'Science' - links include "Arctic ice 'melt even faster'", and "More doubt on cosmic climate link."
The Guardian contents itself with noting that Hamish Mykura, head of Channel 4 documentaries. was "unrepetant." The heathen swine!
I just wish I could live a couple of centuries longer so I could enjoy a hearty post-facto laugh at these Malthusian malcontents and their dreadful, drear campaign against human liberty and innovation. As it is, I shall content myself by deploying one, simple word against them knowing that in this matter at least science is irrefutably on my side: "cunts"
